We are about to do some Random Vibration Testing in an external Lab, and have been asked about the "Sweep Rate" for the testing. I cannot see what "sweep rate" has to do with Random Vibration Testing. Have I missed something?
Umm. There is perhaps a sweep rate associated with random vibration testing.
I once flight-qualified a tungsten heater filament for a space booster launch. The vib. tech and I joked that the test would likely have a high sweep rate - and the stress analyst who was also there to witness the test gave us a puzzled look and started to object.
Then I explained that we meant how often we'd have to sweep up the broken pieces...
