Radial Fan Design

Hi, I am working now in the design of a radial fan to help cool a DC electric motor, and doing some very simple air flow tests, the fan is integrated with the flywheel.
I know that the profile of the blade is a key but what I have not found information is regarding to the area of the blade, like thicknes and width. The fan in operation is located outside of the motor and is going to suck air from the inside of the motor trough a group of windows on the end cover of the motor. The blades are going to be separated from the end cover within a gap of 0.100" to 0.125". I would like to know if the area of the blade has some relation to the air volume.

flow rate is directly related to fan diameter (~ blade length), and RPM:

Q ~ D^3 * RPM

use google and enter fan laws, you should find enough web site with some basic info on this.
