s part of our Off-sites Automation Project (OAP) which is now on the early part of the EPC phase, we are planning to replace the existing Sakura servo gauge in our LPG spheres with radar level gauge. However, we have received conflicting reports on the applicability of radar gauges for LPG measurement. One says that servo gauge is the best for LPG measurement while another says radar is better. Some even say that radar gauges cannot be used for LPG spheres. Can I then asked your opinion on this. Your experience on the existing gauge you're using and the problems & solutions encountered will be of help.

Thanks!

I worked on a project to upgrade level instrumentation on our butadiene spheres and considered radar. Radar was rejected because it would require a gauge well, which we don't have, to make up for signal reflection problems in the sphere. Based on this it could work if you have a gauge / stilling well or are willing to spend the money to install one. Since we weren't willing to spend the money and take the sphere out of service for installation, another system was chosen.
