we had a customer ask us if we could do repairs
on s/s elbows.apparantly we dont need a "pressure vessel" ticket to do repairs
but we do need what they call a "R-stamp"what is this and what do you have to do
to get one.
An R-Stamp is actually a metal stamp that is only issued by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors in the US. This stamp signifies that you have a Certificate of Authorization from the National Board to repair boilers and pressure vessels in accordance with the National Board Inspection Code book. In lieu of trying to get wordy with a complete description, I have included their web site below;
No, because the National Board R-Stamp symbol is Trademark protected and cannot be duplicated by any other organization. Also, the National Board Inspection Code is an international standard.
marmon - Where are you, exactly? The provincial inspection authority for boilers & pressure vessels will be able to tell you exactly what you need to have, in order to perform the work.
and it has all of the contact info. If you really do require an "R" stamp for this work I doubt it will be worth the hassle of getting it, unless you're planning to do a LOT of this kind of work, on an on-going basis. It sounds odd - when I think "elbows", I'm thinking pressure pipe welding shop, not necessarily pressure vessels.
