So, I thought I may clarify things a little. I work for a company that is in the business of creating 1-off machines with 1-off parts. Working with folks that have (as I have) used both a "Smart" numbering system and a "Sequential" numbering system. We're not actually concerned about parts changing down the road, as that usually manages itself, and once the machine is out the door, we will move on to the next one, and not reuse the old design without renumbering it anyhow.
The problem comes when the shops or customer reviewers don't have ready access to the PDM system, and a sequential numbering system is difficult to navigate. ASME Y14.1-2005 provides for an Application Block, and we're considering using it.
Is there someway that I can automate a parameter, say "NEXT_ASSY_UP_1", "NEXT_ASSY_UP_2"... to report what PDM already knows? (Where Used or Dependencies...)
It seems like it's a long-shot, but for my purposes, it would be a blessing!
Thanks for the help!
