"Inert" Material for Covers for Antique Books

Any recommendations for clear materials with which to cover antique books and publications which will not cause any chemical or other damage to the documents?

You may use FEP film which is clear ( like glass ) and clean ( like PTFE ).

Please be careful.

Many plastics contain low molecular weight polymers to improve the plastics viscoelastic behavior during processing. Over time, these can leave the plastic and coat some cooler surface. The best examples are the low-molecular weight vinyls in many automotive applications --- which give a new car its characteristic odor but coat the inside windshield with a grungy film --- and, eventually, result in the plastic becoming brittle.

The foil may be OK but how about the glue ?
