Hello,

I've got a strange issue with Cadkey 99. I'm running it on Windows 10 (it still works!) but the problem I've run into seems to be related to the monitor. I had a Samsung 25" monitor that worked fine. A while back, I upgraded to a ViewSonic 27" monitor. Now I get a rectangular area in the middle of the screen that hides everything until I hit the regenerate button. I changed the background color from black to white to see if there was something I could see but no luck. If I hit the regenerate button, the part will become visible, but the mouse crosshairs will vanish while traveling through this zone.

I realized this is a really old version, but we have legacy files and I'm now using Solid Edge for most of my work but still need Cadkey to access the legacy files.

Kyle,

Sorry for the super-late response. I don't check eng-tip.com nearly as often as I should. (understatement of the year)

I would strongly suggest you keep an eye on the Kubotek web site ( and watch for "upgrade" specials. Every so often they offer and upgrade to the latest version of KeyCreator, to legacy Cadkey users, at a greatly reduced rate. You'll still be able to access the old Cadkey files, plus you'll have the latest tools that KeyCreator offers. KeyCreator is still the old easy-to-use "Cadkey", but with tons of more functionality.

Another option would be to purchase a seat of Kubotek Spectrum ($99) to read KeyCreator/Cadkey files, or Spectrum Premium ($299) to read those plus files from CATIA, Solidworks, Pro/E, and others. The free version will only read KeyCreator files.
