A foundry in China is proposing repairing some ductile iron casting using "cold welding."
Attached is the image of the device they intend to use. One image seems to be an electrode of some sort, but...
That is the extent of the info we have today.
A Google search nets some literal hit along the line of this, all from China and a few of the ali- sites.
The tech description for that one jumps back and forth between welding and something about soldering and left me quite uncertain.
That one mentions Lasers, imitation lasers, microbeams , and a "German company's micro- beam welding machine main power technology."
max 0.4 mm build up using a series of welded dots is what I can get out of it.
