I am putting together a speech podium for a funcion in my home. Theoretically it is going to be supported by aluminium beams covered over by plywood. In the center there is going to be an opening which will be supported on each side by scaffold grade planks. My quesion is how to get the information on what load the planks can withstand and also to calculate how much load the whole structure can bear so that I then I can talk to a contractor .
thanks

Alberta's OH&S Regulations have a fair bit of info on scaffolding, plank sizes, etc...
The Act also references "CAN/CSA?S269.2?M87 (R1998), Access Scaffolding for Construction Purposes".
I'm assuming you're Canadian from your handle, check your provincial OH&S Act if not Albertan.

Because, after all those go-around things done, the product may not have the chance to meet the demand of the event - now :)

"CA" is also California, which also has its own OSHA program.
