I have a question on tolerancing a tapped hole for a set screw. I attached a pdf of my unfinished drawing. The location of the set screw needs to be within a certain tolerance of the .160Ø thru hole in order to make contact with the mating part.

Any help on this would be much appreciated. I'm a beginner at dimensioning my own parts.

What kind of set screw are you using? Cup points are very popular, and their centreing will not be critical in your application.

For the record, I hate set screws. They did dig into the mating part taking it up past its yield point. You apply force to the mating part generating more plastic deformation, and the set screws comes loose. Almost anything will retain your part more reliably.

The mating part is a dial test indicator. the user would have the option of using the .160Ø thru hole or the .160Ø blind hole (on the top view) to place the stem of the dial indicator. This is why I want to tolerance the tapped hole for the set screw.

A dial indicator is a rather expensive thing for you to be applying set screw dents. I recommend a split clamp, like this, from Mitutoyo.
