I have a metal building i am doing drawings for a volenteer fire deparment. it is 40 foot wide and only 30' long, 14' eave height 2 on 12 roof slope. it only has the 1 rigid frame in the center of the 40' clear span.
my question is, what size W beam to make the rafter. the location is Burkett texas, (central west Texas) so not much snow or wind. the building does not require a stamp, its in the country and will be a "weld up".
I was thinking it probably needs a W10x22 rafter and W8x13 columns, but if i could possible go any lighter that would be very beneficial, as their budget needs to be a small as possible, and if i could go with W8x10 columns and and maybe W10x12 rafters, it would be allot less expensive.
I was a metal building draftman for 15 years but i only know how to do the drawings, and i've been out of the industry for about 10 years. so i don't want to tell them to go to light and the building be too flimsy, but not to heavy with unecessary expense.

any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.
