Given a bull dozer with a hydraulic cylinder mounted to&nbsp;&nbsp;the tractor at the cylinder housing and the ram hooked at the blade.<br><br>Given the same Bull dozer with the hydraulic cylinder housing mounted on the blade and the ram hooked to tractor.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br><br>Another words we just flipped the whole entire cylinder over with the working pressure still at the same end.<br><br>Would there be any more or less working force to be applied for either application?<br>
 
From engineering statics:<br><br>Cut draw a free-body diagram of the cylinder and put a cut through the cylinder rod. Replace it with reacting forces and answer your own question.<br><br>Don Leffingwell
 
I'm not a hydraulics engineer, but I work around heavy equipment and snow removal equipment, IMHO the lifting and downforce would be the same as the system pressure is still on the rod end of the cylinder to retract and the barrel end to extend. The only problem would be the moving hoses to contend with...Mike
