Hi group,

i`m a mechanical engineer, i'm beginning (very early stage!)to develop a university project to create FEA software, only for academic purposes. i only will develop the core, the processor. My question is, there is a free software for the design and load definition stage, and for the results visualisation (pre-post processors)?, for educational purposes?

Check out calculix, its pre and post processor is better than most of the educational offerings.

Cheers

Hi Oliveros

I suggest you GiD from CIMNE:

GiD can import Parasolid geometries, it can read/write models for Nastran and ANSYS, it has postprocessing features for both structural FEA (contours, displacements, mode shapes, ...) and CFD data (tracelines, isocurfaces, sections, ...).

But the most important thing is that GiD can be customized to run and postprocess your personal mesh-based software, using scripts and Tcl/Tk programs.

Finally, GiD has a special licensing price for Universities.

You can download dozens of papers on GiD customizations from the GiD Conference webpage.

Kind regards
Francesco
