Hey,

I am trying to simulate a quasi static coining process. I am using Abaqus 6.11 and an Explicit step. My model basically involves a die with a sinusoidal profile pushing on a cuboidal blank. I have specified a displacement boundary condition where the die pushes into the blank. The simulation is in microns (the amplitude and wavelength of the sine wave is in microns), so I tried two approaches to go about it:
1) Specify the material properties in microns (like density in kg/um^3)
2) Dimension the parts in microns while keeping the material properties in SI units

The first approach ran for a small amount of time but I wasn't sure of the result. Hence, I tried the second approach which is running for a really long time. I had to eventually kill it without getting any good result.

Shouldnt both the approaches work? What could be the error here?

Thanks for your reply!

I guess you're right. The second one definitely seems wrong. I think the first is right.
