I'm currently renovating a quad (3 stories) in the Phila. area and wanted to know if i need sprinklers or pull stations and where or if smoke detectors suffice. Do the smoke detectors in all the apartments need to be linked through a centralized system?

Not enough information to help you out. Try reading the following IBC sections: 903.2.7 and 907.2. It is hard to tell if you have R-2 or R-3, if you have separtions, etc.

This, of course, assumes your building code is based on the 2006 IBC.

have you submitted plans to the city for review???

how many total units???

4 units. 1 on third floor (3br- has ladder), 2 on second (1br, 1 studio), 1 on first (3br).

I think that rules out the IRC, but it could still be R-2 or R-3, depending on how the entrances are configured. Have you read 903.2.7 and 907.2?

Here is a link to some of these codes for other states that subscribe to the free e-codes:

I do not know what code PA is under.
