I got a problem when I ran a python script with Abaqus getting the error
importerror no module named config
for the command:
import config

The first thing you have to do is to install the extra module for the python version which Abaqus uses. To get this version, type the following command in the python command line in abaqus:

>>> import sys
>>> print sys.version
2.6.2 for Abaqus 6.10-EF1 (r262:71600, Sep 23 2010, 15:29:42)
[GCC Intel(R) C++ gcc 4.1 mode]

That is version 2.6.2, then install from the terminal the desired module by:

easy_install-2.6 config

then you get the module in the following directory:
/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/config-0.3.7-py2.6.egg/

then add this directory the the sys.path via the python command line in Abaqus by:

>>> import sys
>>> sys.path.append(/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/config-0.3.7-py2.6.egg/)

then to check it works or not, type the following command in Python command line of abaqus:

>>> import config
>>>

then it should work! It took me some time to fix it, while the python in the Terminal accept the command "import config" but Abaqus did not!
It should be the same for any other non standard modules too.

cheers
