Greetings all:

We are using PVD, wick drains, on our project - propriety ones. To be honest, I never really thought of a global specification - since the wick drains is some sort of plastic/pvc core of some shape (various) surrounded by a geotextile.

WHile we are using them based on the manufacturer's spec (which I think, along with the historical use of the proprietary wicks is sufficient), the client wants to know about a "global" spec to which these proprietary ones should be compared.

I've not too many references here and my AASHTO highway materials spec book is mute on this.

Please advise if you know of any (BS std, DIN, etc.). Please give detailed title and std number and, if you could be so kind, the ranges for the principal properties.

Muchas gracias/terima kasih

There is a european norm on its way for vertical drains.I have the draft N°4 for this one.It covers both design and installation.
You have lots of ASTM standards for measuring properties of vertical drains (D44716 for discharge capacity,D3776 for weight, D1777 for thickness, D638 for tensile strength, for the filter only see D4751, D4491, D4632, D4833,D3786.
New York State DOT has a spec for vertical drains
Hope this helps

Thanks BigHarvey - I'd like some data on the European spec. It is not the measurements of the properties that the client is seeking, it is the range of values that form the "specification." - like the physical property requirements of Portland Cement.

Thanks.
