Hi All,
Curious to know how you approach this. The beta value factors in the attached photo can be used when adjacent spans do not differ by more than 25% and when the lateral stability does not rely on frame action. When your structures don't satisfy those requirements do you calculate the beta factor or still apply the recommended values? I ask because I have seen people do both during my career. In my experience the calculated beta factor is often smaller than the recommended value. You would skirt closer to the risk of a failure with this but it could be more economical.
