Pump Shaft Diameter dimensional tolerances

I am having new pump shafts manufactured and was wondering where I would go for detailed information on the dimensional tolerances for the manufacturing of the shaft. What API standard list the requirements for the diameter tolerances?

I am not sure about the API standards but the things that go on the shaft like, impellers , shaft retaining nuts, seals and drive couplings will dictate the tolerances acceptable.
Likewise a good machine shop should be able to make a new shaft almost exactly the same as the old shafts. So was there a problem with the old shaft tolerance?

The tolerances for shaft diameters mentioned in API610 11th edition are
1) ANSI/ABMA 7, Shaft and Housing Fits for Metric Radial Ball and Roller Bearings
2) 6.6.4 All shaft keyways shall have fillet radii in accordance with ISO 3117.
3) 6.6.7 The shaft-to-seal sleeve fit(s) shall be F7/h6 in accordance with ISO 286 (all parts).
4) 6.6.9 Shafts shall be machined and finished throughout their length so that the TIR is not more than 25 μm (0,001 in).
5) 6.8.4 Provisions shall be made to centre the seal gland and/or chamber with either an inside or outside diameter register fit. The register fit surface shall be concentric to the shaft and shall have a total indicated runout of not more than 125 μm (0,005 in).


Read through API 610 - it has some good information there for operation as well as design.
