Any of you guys have any experience in pumiceous soils?

I'm moving to the Taupo region of NZ where there is apparently alot of pumice (along with other volcanic soils)

Don't really know what I'm going myself into other than some new challenges

Contact Laurence Wesley - Professor Emeritus of University of Aukland - really nice man - lots of residual soil experience.

Has written a book on residual soils (did a lot of work in Indonesia) - here's a paper on slopes in resid soils:
Realize this isn't pumice but . . .

Congratulations on making a move I hope you enjoy the challenge. As BigH has mentioned the University of Auckland will have a significant amount of information for you to digest. My only knowledge of volcanic rocks and soils is a generally lower specific gravity and higher void ratios than I am used to, which is not surprising seeing as I am in Canadian hard rock mining territory.
