I'm designing a system to pump mud cuttings slurry and am looking for a pressure safety valve to protect the system.
The max working pressure is 520 barg and we plan to set the PSV at 572 barg (8294 psig). The pump is a triplex, 8" stroke 5.5" plungers, with a damper on suction and discharge to get me +-3% pulsation frequency.

Firstly is the set pressure too close to the duty point to prevent it going off under normal conditions?

Secondly i've been looking at auto reseat, lever reset and pilot operated valves. is there a technical reason why i shouldn't use the auto reseat over a lever reset?

Pilot operated valves are pretty much out due to cost, but I can't help but keep looking at the auto reseat valves on a price basis.

Plus, anyone know why I can't find valves at this pressure with PED certification.

Your comment greatly appreciated.

Your pressure setting for the PSV is o.k. 5-10 % above max. pump operating pressure is the standard. You are 10 % above that - so that's fine. Especially if the pump really meets your +/- 3 % residual pulsation requirement.

You are looking for a PSV with PED certification? If so, check or I haven't checked whether they have what you need but it's worth ti have a look.

Well with the dampers the discharge should be +-3% anyway.

I'm actually after a valve to use in Kazakhstan, but we are selling the equipment into the EU so under the machinery directive PED is my first stop. Gost K being the second. Of the three valves I've found that can do the pressure and connection sizes none are PED or Gost K and only one is a lever reset.
Most basic question is suitability of an auto reset valve on a reciprocating plunger pump for mud slurry?

Lesser don't go to these pressures and Bopp & Reuther don't look like they do relief valves. Thanks anyway.

not sure the'll handle to particles, but i'll give them a try, and let you know how i get on.
Thanks
