1. PSV installed on furnace effluent line, are these PSV to be sized as per ASME Section I or API?
2. How to apply Orifice designation to it?
3. If Steam PSV located on Column Pump Around exchanger, shall be designed as per ASME or API?

Thanks

"furnace effluent line"...???......

Oh,..wait... do you mean the steam piping from the boiler ?

The boiler code of construction clearly shows where the boiler begins and ends. If your PSV is within that boundary, then the device is a SRV (Safety Relief Valve) and is protecting the boiler.

If you are actually sizing a SRV, then the rules for sizing are, again, contained in the boiler code.

If you are installing a PSV on steam piping, you are protecting someting downstream of the boiler. Other rules, such as those contained in ASME B31.1 may apply to the sizing calculation.

My opinion only

Thanks MJCronin,
Furnace effluent is either hot process gas or flue gas and its heat is used for generation of steam. PSV on the steam is protecting steam service.
