Hello everyone,

I've seen similar threads but at least five years old and since I haven't found solution there I decided to renew the question. Do you think it's possible (maybe somebody has done that) to save/convert/export UGS NX .prt part file as XML file? Maybe from STL format it's possible? My project leader has that idea however we don't know how to do this. I would be grateful for some hints and tips.

To be honest I've asked the same question. The thing is that we are trying to use other format than stl (to decrease the size of the file) to transfer models to the fabrication device. I've also read about AMF format but it is not commonly used...

It sounds like you're talking about some sort of scheme to use a 'model' in some other application. If so, an NX .prt file is much more than just a 'model'. Have you looked at any of the File -> Export -> format options? In addition to .stl, there is Parasolid and JT which will only contain the actual 'model' data, as well as the popular neutral exchange formats, like IGES and STEP.

What file types does your "fabrication device" accept as input? If it accepts .stl files, you can specify larger tolerance values to help minimize the file size. This will trade off "resolution" of the finished model for a smaller file.
