Look up "passivation".
This typically uses a 10% solution of nitric acid, but there also are other commercial solutions. The solution must be oxidizing and free of chlorides.
Acid is most often used to also remove iron contamination. You probaby could use the peroxide solution available in a drug store if you only want to provide accelerated formation of the passive film and the suface is iron and chloride free.
