Protection of RC Silo walls from excessive heat

HI everyone,

We are constructing a number of silos in high heat conditions ( approx. 50 degrees Celsius). We are worried that the cement hydration temperature will exceed 75 degrees Celsius( as it happened with other silos). The method of construction is slip forming. Does anyone know any method to protect the silo walls from overheating during slip forming ?

The Hoover Dam famously had embedded pipe to run water through to cool the concrete, first from river water and later by water run through a chilling plant.

Perhaps add a cooling jacket to the slip form.

Alternatively, mix the concrete with ice to lower the initial temperature. See for an example explanation.

Like this: but bigger. May also be known as water jacket. You may have to make your own with a chiller plant, water tubing, and insulation to ensure the heat is removed primarily from the concrete rather than the surrounding air.

Perhaps a discussion with the slip form maker would help.
 
Your internet code ( SA ) . If this is true , i have experience with KSA conditions and worked there.
I will suggest you , the use of LOW HEAT PORTLAND SLAG CEMENT and keep the temperature of the fresh concrete less than 30 degr.

EDIT; i forgot to add the use of curing with jutes . The jute bags are wrapped the concrete surface to be cured and the bags are sprayed with water from time to time..
