Pros and Cons of a 1 vs 2 Lens Erector System

Short and sweet: I've seen image erectors that use one lens and I've seen image erectors that use two lenses. I've never seen an explanation of their merits. What are the pros and cons of each system and which applications would you use them in?

Generally, additional lenses are usually added to improve optical quality, since there will be an increase in optical transmission.
