I have an inspection question. Wherever i have worked they always say that the part, surface to inspect on, and the gaging equipment must all be between 68-72 degrees F.

Where is this officially stated?

Does anyone have experience with heat charts/graphs to machine and inspect parts in a 70-80 degree building, but also pass inspection once in the 68 degree CMM room?

thanks,

Also see ASME B89.6.2-1973 (reaffirmed 2003), "TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY ENVIRONMENT FOR DIMENSIONAL MEASUREMENT". This standard has a lot of good information on tempature and humidity compensation in measurements, coefficient of expansion ratios, thermal conductivity, etc. All good things that an inspection shop should know and follow.

GDTGUY - is correct with that ASME B89.6.2 is a must have specification for setting up company QA standards. We have parts that are machined from unobtainium that require special inspection processes. A
