I understand how trivial this is. For CRSI, I say "Chris-E". My coworker says "Crease-E". Is there a consensus on how to say this non-word?

I say it "C" "R" "S" "I"

you don't say AISC ayeeysssckkkk....

Uh-oh, an electrical guy posting in the structural forum -- hope I don't get chastised, but I can't resist.

Are you referring to the Cryptology Research Society of India, or perhaps a Combat Readiness Special Inspection, or maybe Space Shuttle tiles (Ceramic Reusable Surface Insulation)?

If it's the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute by chance, I'd be inclined to say it like my daughter's name (Chrissie) -- but I'd make sure everyone in earshot knew what I was talking about first...

Good on ya!

I've never known it to be anything different than "C" "R" "S" "I".

Michael.
Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

I have heard it pronounced "cursie."

I say "C-R-S-I."

I know--the way I say it is four syllables, as opposed to two. But at least I don't have to say, "Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute!"

"C" "R" "S" "I"...cutesy names and rebar just don't seem to fit together.

not sure why but my old office said it like "Chrissy"... I cannot think of many other examples other than NAFTA where acronyms are phonetically pronounced unless it was done on purpose like many charitable organizations do.

Thanks all.
It is C-R-S-I from now on.

BA - I think you know how I spell it - incorrectly! At least I used to.

ToadJones,

You made me laugh. From now on I will be calling it the "croissant manual."

I say "Chrissy", like the girl's name. I picked it up from the other engineers in my office.

I like the International Concrete Repair Institute, ICRI, or I cry.

Dave-
I hate to admit it, but I was laughing when I typed that.
If you use a French accent and pronunciation, it tends to sound even a bit more funny.

It's pronounced 'Chrissy'.

There are a lot other publications/organizations where the acronym is actually pronounced out instead of saying each letter: PETA, BOCA, CABO, ASHRE, MENSA, EIFS, etc.

Here's another one, EIFS: -> is it EYE-fuss, or EEE-fuss?
