I first learned on version 14 circa 1995 and do not remember the model tree being there. Anyone here know when PTC introduced the model tree to ProE functionality...??

I started on 16 and I've wondered this too.


I don't remember the model tree, but I can't imagine not having it. I think it was there, but it was a separate window and was basically just a list of features. No putting parameter info or other things in there.

Think it was Rev 18 which means 19 in reality.


Rev 18 dropped PDM support (Doh !!!) and R19had to berushed out to put it back..

I don't think it was 18. I was trained on 18, but when I got back to my new job they were still using 16. I don't remember being trainedwith the model tree and thenhaving to work without it. Seems like that would be painful.


I remember 19 being a buggy release for a lot of folks. We skipped it. 20 was more stable, but introduced the first icons. It was the first release that I remember having a 'pre-production' build. It was the end of the every-six-month releases as well. Now we're lucky to get one every 18 months.

At the Pro/E user conference last fall in Minneapolis a vendor reseller had a version 12 for participants to play with. I could not model anything.

I've used every release since 2, I saw a demo of 1. Knew from the start it was far better than anything else available at the time. Shame they blew the lead. I don't remember when the model tree appeared but I would have thought it was long before 18. I know the early versions of the model tree were not nearly so useful as it is now.

my site search isnt working now and I know its a little off topic, but can anyone point me to an article that was about the origins of pro-engineer ie russian originator of the code/kernel please?

I looked in my Hard copy of 18 Books and the model tree is there. Wish I did not toss the Rev 16 books, I Thought one day they could come in Handy!
