Hi! I'm new in the forums and i was looking for a bit of advice...

Do any of you experienced engineers have a method of designing a process? I mean, building a plant from scratch, listing all equipments, P&ID's, etc...

I would like to know how you procede when you have to do a full process from scratch, like what you do first, then what you do next ( the small steps), because i find myself in various times going back and forth on the project and wasting lots of time.

Thanks for the help.

I try to go in the order – PFD, layout, P&ID, major equipment list and specs, minor equipment list and specs, instrument list and datasheets, control system functional specs.

The keyword is try. There is ALWAYS some back and forth. Why? People change their minds. R&D finds a better idea. Marketing says the customer wants a different product. Logistics wants to use rail cars instead of tank trucks. There are language interpretation issues. IT issues are discovered. The Law Department finds patent infringement issues. Operations wants to automate EVERYTHING! And on and on and on.

Good luck,
Latexman

Technically, the glass is always full - 1/2 air and 1/2 water.

The way described y Latexman seems industry standard (ideal). You should ask around if your company has a project model. This may describe the details required in each phase of the project and how it is decided in each phase how/when to progress

We currently don't have standards for this. at least not that developed. I should do them and that's why i asked. Thanks Latexman, that was great information!
