Procedure for measuring coarse perlite % - carbon steel 1

Is there a standard procedure (ASTM or other) for measuring the amount of coarse perlite in carbon steel rod used for wiredrawing? We currently evaluate it by eye, at magnification 400x on the optical microscope.

There are a number of standard test methods such as ASTM E 112, E 1181, E 1268, and E 1245 for evaluating the microstructure of metals. Clemex makes some excellent software that calculates and automates these procedures. Use the following links for more information:
