That version (which is the version that I've installed before) probably installs some MatLab components or libraries or such that it uses. That's just a guess on my part. And, it's not something I thought of initially.
The MatLab responses to this sort of issue include the following:

[li]Non-ASCII characters (e.g. !@#$&^?) are present in the path to the MATLAB installation folder, or the name of the folder itself[/li]
[li]Non-ASCII characters are present in the path to the Windows TEMP folder, the name of the TEMP folder itself, or the values of the TEMP and/or TMP environment variables[/li]
[li]Non-ASCII characters are present in the path to the folder containing the MATLAB installer, or the name of the folder itself[/li]
[li]There is a problem with the installation files (damaged DVD, corrupt or incomplete downloads)[/li]
[li]MATLAB is already installed and you are running the setup.exe from the installation folder/directory[/li]
[/ul]
