Hi

I can disign a potable water tank with D=10 m and H=10 m and with rafter supported fixed cone roof (no girder and no column) and roof slope is 1:16. I want calculate the number and type of rafters that don't fail. Can you help me how do I calculate them? Can you introduce me any book for this problem?

Thanks

Recommended for you

- API 650 will give you guidlines on rafter spacing.
- AISC will give you info on rafter design.
- The Strucutural Engineering Handbook has a method for designing the compression ring for roofs without center columns.

yosamitysamm ,

The API 650 doesn't give more detail about rafter design.
Can you tell me which part of AISC gives information about rafters?
and I don't have The Strucutural Engineering Handbook, please give me the address of the Handbook that get it.

regards

I assume you have read IFR's reply in thread 1452-257294 and since you have decided against a center column, dome or umbrella, I suggest you enlist the help of a structural or civil engineer familiar with the AISC ASD Steel Manual. It is not a difficult solution but in your case could involve more decisions than you mention. Good luck.

"Can you tell me which part of AISC gives information about rafters?"

Let me guess.....

Is this the first time you have designed structural steel for a storage tank ?

Dear MJCronin
