I've been asked if we can connect to a building's existing fire storage water suction tank to provide water for a process need. I know it is not a good idea, but I'm looking for the specific code or NFPA requirement which does not allow this.

1998 current edition of NFPA 22, Standard for Water Tanks for Private Fire Protection, contains section 11-3.8, which
indicates:"Connections for use other than fire protection shall not be made."

If the process suction is located above the level of water needed for fire purposes, I supose it can be made. See NFPA 850 4-2.6.1.(99 edition).
