Happy Friday Everyone,
Hey, does anyone out there have an average weight density they can give me for printed circuit board weight? Cubic Inch value is desired.

I know there's many material options for this, but just looking for gernic R4? material. The calculated density inculdes parent board material, copper layers and etc...yada, yada, yada

Just looking for something close I can plug into my SW model.

Thanks for your time,

Colin

macduff,

Are you going to attach each and every component to the PCB so that you can account for the weight of these?

My prototype file is set for aluminium. PCBs are mostly FRP, which is lighter than aluminium. Between the weight of the track layers (2, 3, 4... ?) and any components I do not bother to model, I figure it works out.

For a basic analysis treat the whole thing as just FR-4 and neglect the copper cladding and finish. Its listed as 1.91kg/L on Wiki.

Better off, if its good know the number of layers, thickness of your board, weight of your inner and outer layers of copper cladding, and board dims
Here's a simple calculator:

Go here for good property and material sheets on all kinds of stuff used in circuit boards:

CBL,
Don't have anything laying around at the moment. I figured you guys might have something.

drawoh,
Just need the raw board density. I have the component weights already.

rfus,
Very cool and thanks. I'll take a look at the links.
