I do not have the price but duplex and super duplex are expensive.

Do you mean corrected for strength or just per pound????
I can look up list prices for you, which don't mean JackShi#.
The only other prices that I have are for light gage sheet and very large quantities.

316L 25ksi min yld base $1.10/# Feb Surch $1.32/# $2.42/#
2205 65ksi min yld base $1.85/# Feb surch $1.22/# $3.07/#
lean duplex (2101 or 2003)
lndx 65ksi min yld base $1.50/# Feb surch $0.82/# $2.32/#

These may not hold for your product form, but the ratios should.

Put another way, $/100ski equivalent
316L $9.68
2205 $4.72
lean duplex $3.57

If you are designing based on strength and 316 has enough corrosion resistance you need to look at the lean duplex alloys. Though enven 2205 would be cheaper today than 316L.

Corrosion never sleeps, but it can be managed.

EdStainless

I admire your business acumen. with the kind of data you present commercially and technically I gather you have very less competition. You will certainly be a success if you turn into an entrepreneur. I hope some of these aspects too will be discussed in the book on stainless steel.

EdStainless is in a very good position to know exactly what is going on with prices. His information is usually very hard to find. We are fortunate to have his access to this information.
His company has been a leader in stainless technology, but they have a lot of competition in the US.

As far as I know 2101 (Outokumpu) is only available in plate. I have been trying to get sheet and I keep getting the run around.
It looks like 2003 (ALlegheny Ludlum) is only really available in sheet. They might make plate, but haven't seemed eager to.
I have also never found 2304 (Arcelor) in sheet, only plate.
I am not sure about 19D (AK). I know that it is sold as sheet, but I am unsure about other forms.

I have never seen any lean duplex as bar, rod or wire. I am sure that it is out there, but it must not be very common yet.

Stock of LDX 2101 will soon be available in sheet and plate from Rolled Alloys this May. Other product forms will follow later in 2005. LDX 2101 flat products are lower in cost than 316L on a pound for pound basis and as EdStainless indicates if strength is factored in it is even more economical. A data sheet will be available off of the Rolled Alloys website shortly and is currently available in hardcopy.
