I've been asked to find a product that can be put over existing storm drain grates that would prevent most leaves/twigs from entering system. I've seen what looks like an expanded metal basket type deal but I'm not sure where it came from.

Anybody?

Temporarily? Use an Inlet Filter Bag, lots of vendors, here's one:

Permanently? I suppose "an expanded metal basket type deal" would do it, just don't put one in near traffic, it will flood the roadway. No idea where to get an expanded metal basket type deal, though.

it's not recommended for permanent use as it will plug, thus not allowing the storm drain to function properly. almost always better to allow floatable debris to pass through the storm drain without trying to catch it.

I just went to a lunch seminar yesterday put on by the local distributor and product developer on a number of stormwater devices. Sounds like you might be interested in the grate inlet skimmer box or curb inlet basket.
