Pressure drop calculation: Filter wrappings

Ok, I don't even know where to start with this one. I want to calculate an approximate presure drop over an inline gas filter.

The filter is a cylindrical perforated tube, which is wrapped with 4 layers. The filter is located in the end of a pipe.
The four layers are ...
1 thickness of 10 mesh
1 thickness of 80 mesh
2 thickneses of glass filter cloth (assume this is fibre glass?)
1 thickness of 80 mesh

Any pointers as to how to calculate this? Any help would be appriciated.

this sounds like something that takes a week to be calculated but only a few hours to measure, do you actually have the filter or does it exist in your mind only?

As a rough estimation, use Ergun formula.
I said ROUGH, because at that formula you need "Porosity" .So you need to get a estimation of porosty based on mesh numbers ( you can assume you have 4 filters in series).

Hope this help.

I have the filter, but it exists in a 90,000kg/hr 1000kPa air/ammonia line, not the easiest thing to measure :(

Shahyar, I could probably do that, but I'd need more information about the glass filter cloth. the only info I have at present is some rough details written on a mechanical drawing in 1967! All that says (and I quote) is G-206-C Glass filter cloth by "National filter media corp."
