Is there a means of displaying large / small numbers in engineering notation within cells of an Excel workbook.

I have access under the Format / Cells / number options box that allows either fixed decimal (category option “number”) or preset decimal places with a full engineering format for numbers (category option “scientific”).

I am looking to set the cell format to preset decimal with the power exponent forced to predefined values of 3, 6, 9 ….or -3, -6, -9 …..etc as per international engineering standards.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi bn, this was answered in thread 770-34406 but, if you are like me, and don't know how to search for threads then:-
Format-Cells-Custom ##0.0E+0 OK? - - bjt

That is Thread770-34406 (without the space it becomes clickable automatically - nice feature :-)) Regards,

Joerd

You're looking for the engineering exponent notation format in Excel. That resides in the custom formats and looks like:

##0.00E+0

Unfortunately, the E has to stay there, since that's the command that forces the engineering notation. TTFN
