I've learned that my old favorite preservative grease RIG is no longer made .I've used it for many years for tools and firearms and I'd like a replacement .Anyone familiar with RIG who can suggest a replacement ?

any Ca-based grease of the lighter variety (NLGI 1 or 0) would do the trick. Ca-greases are very waterresistant and usually contain corrosion inhibitors, the Ca-soap itself also has anticorrosion properties. Ca-greases are extensively used for the lubrication of ships machinery on deck and protect the equipment from corrosion, even in a salt water environment. The max operating temperature is around 60 degrees C which would not pose a problem in this case. The biggest problem would be to get it in a small quantity, but a local lubricants reseller should be able to help you out.

It looks like Jackson Safety Products boughtout Silencio, the makers of RIG. They have a catagory named Borerunner, but all they list is cleaning rods.

Here are some alternates for you guns from my brother the gunman.

He did use Corrosion Block exclusively but has switched to the CorrosionX product. For his so called permanent storage he uses Molykote Metal Protector Plus. Corrosion, at my recommendation. Corrosion Block does have a grease if that is preferred.

Lear Chemical is the actual maker of this product.
