Hello,

I would like to take the GDTP Tecnologist certification exam. I need your guidence for preparing to the exam. Can anyone suggest me how to prepare for the exams?

I have purchased the following books for the reference
1) ASME Y14.5M-1994
2) Fundamentals of GD&T by Alex krulikowski
3) Advanced concepts of GD&T by Alex krulikowski

Some one told me to study entire ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard. I have a question here, in the ASME Y14.5M 1994 standard they are so many other standards refered, example: for Screw threads it is ANSI Y 14.6, for Surface texture it is ANSI Y14.36 etc.,

Do I need to study these ANSI standards as well to prepare for GDTP certification exam? If so where can I get these std., or is there any book which I can refer?

Please suggest me and do the needful.

Thank you.

Look to ASME Y14.5.2-2000. This is the document that defines all the requirements for GDTP Senior and Technologist certification exam.

Most of the requirements are based on Y14.5M-1994 standard, but it is very likely that in the near future this will change to Y14.5-2009. As far as I know from ASME (Matthew Carnino) the decision is going to be made this year.

Madhu454, When I took the test I just reviewed ASME Y14.5M - 2009 as well as other good books I had that were based on the standard.

ASME has an actual study guide to help prepare for the exam - I have a copy but then my job duties changed so I haven't gone far with it.

Posting guidelines faq731-376 (probably not aimed specifically at you)

Yes, you need to know ASME Y14.5M-1994 pretty much cover to cover. The test does not cover the other standards referenced in Y14.5.

Keep in mind that the test covers more than just GD&T. So many people forget the little stuff such as definitions, rules for plus/minus usage, how to dimension a radius, etc.

Certainly look at Y14.5.2 -- it has a checklist of every topic that you'll need to know.
