Hello All,

I have question reqarding idealzied springs that just came to mind today. Does anyone know if it is possible to apply preload to an idealized spring? I have searched around a little and don't seem to find where this can be done. I have a situation that requires me to apply preload to a spring...in a very similar fashion that can be done in Pro/Mechanism.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

Could that be done using a prestress static analysis? I would think that if you apply some form of loading condition with the spring providing the reaction then a prestress analysis will reflect the preloaded state of stress. This is only a speculation however as I don't have much experience with idealized springs but it may be worth a shot and might provide some information.

If not please disregard and good luck.

It could be done with a prestressed static, however I am running a large displacment analysis which is non-linear, thus not eligible for the prestressed static option.
