Prebid Questions

I helped in the design of a school site. The project
included:

1 collector street
2 parking areas
3 buildings
1 fuel facility
1 Mobile home park for teacher's housing
and more

The preconstruction meeting is going to be held the next week.

My problem:

My boss asked me to attend the preconstruction meeting in place of the head designer of this project. I have never
attended a preconstruction meeting.

What are some general questions I might expect from the
contractor relating to our construction plans.

A whole lot of things can come up in a preconstruction meeting. The contractor should have all of this insurance, bonds, contracts, permits and other paperwork in order by this time, if not it should be dealt with before work starts. The contractor should have a construction schedule prepared. The contractor should have plans for staging areas, traffic control, safety. He will need to know about local utilities and their locations, when and if they can be interrupted if necessary, for how long. The contractor may have questions on the plans or may have found mistakes on the plans. He will need to know the process for submittal and approval of change orders. He will need to know who is the project manager and the inspectors and exactly what the authority and chain of command is. The contractor should have a construction superintendent assigned to this project who will be onsite and responsible for not only his own work but for that of all of this subcontractors. He will need to know to whom cut sheets will be submitted and what is the time frame and process for approval of materials.

Could probably think of alot more things. The chain of command on both sides, contractor and owner, is probably the most important - too often it is not made as clear as it should be.

Your question title says "Prebid" and your question says "Preconstruction". These are two different things and questions can be much different. Which are you asking about?

Prebid: Questions relate to the bidding proceedures, plans and specifications before bidding the job.

Preconstruction: Questions relate to project after the award has been made to a contractor. This could be prior to or after signing of the contract.
