RCSC specs says:
The pre-installation test is used to verify that the fastener assemblies and pretensioned installation procedures perform as required.
The point of argument between me and my project manager is that he thinks that for high strength TC bolts pretensioned using a shear wrench the pre-installation is used to verify: (1) proper bolt assembly, lubrication, conditions (2) proper snugging of the bolt before shearing the spline end (3) making sure that the shear gun works properly in the location where bolts are pretensioned. I agreed with him on the first two but I think the TC bolt pretensioning is achieved after severing the spline and the shear wrench would not play a rule in the amount of pretensioning given that the ironworker properly install, snug, then shear off the bolts spline properly (referred to as proper installation procedure). Which is the accurate interpretation of the code requirement?
