I am designing a exterior concrete basment stair that has epxy coated rebar but would also like to use epoxy adhesive to drill/epoxy the bars into the face of the supporting wall. Are there any issues or strength reduction with using epoxy adhesive on epoxy coated rebar? It is mainly a shear application.

I'd grind off the epoxy coating for the embedded portion. Or maybe Hilti or Simpson's technical services departments can give you a ruling on it.

i'de use regular rebar with proper concrete cover, or galvanized rebar, or MMFX rebar. (basically, I would not use epoxy bars) If I absolutely had to use epoxy coated bars, I would do like Jed, and remove the epoxy from the bar over the length to be embeded.

Call Hilti or Powers and ask. What you are proposing seems fine. After all the bar is coated with epoxy and you are bonding with epoxy.

I have e-mailed Hilti, but haven't gotten a response back. From the summary of the article provided in the link by bones206, it appears that creep was the only area in which there were certain products that didn't qualify. This will not be a tensile application so I think it should be fine. We are providing the required cover, but were just trying to give a little added corrosion protection.

Thanks too all for your responses.
