One of the beams are already under fabrication and I need to make extra holes into that member. Is there a provision for post installment of bolts holes? I tried to look for one in AISC or RCSC but no luck. I am concerned about post drilled bolt holes not having zinc coat on them and cause durability issues. Thank you in advance

Zinc-rich paint. Can’t answer your OP off the top of my head.

It's called a mag-drill. It's a mini-drill press with a giant magnet on the base that clamps it onto the steel.

Look into ASTM A780 for the repair of damaged galvanized coating if you don't get it done before it gets dipped.

Don't overthink it. Just make sure you line the new holes up carefully. As others said, use some touch-up paint and have QC give the nod.

If you want to feel better, here's a fun photo of when an erector who went wild with new holes on one of my jobs.

Hopefully just a simple shear connection...

OP - if the holes are filled with bolts, I would not worry about the coating.

The cope looks great too!

That was a truly awful job. Had to get on a plane a few time for site inspections to avoid litigation. Can't say much more. If it weren't so embarrassing for every company involved, I would love to give an hour-long case study on the field-fixes and subsequent monetary loss. Overall lesson, if a column-line's anchor bolts are installed 1.5" too far in one direction, don't cope and drill new holes in all the beams framing in without telling the engineer..... (n)
