Can any one enlighten me on the best practice regarding isolation, especially when releasing the pump for suction strainer cleaning

Whether the pump needs to be isolated by providing blinding (at suction and discharge valves) even if there is no valve passing? or

The blinding is required only if the valve is passing?

Blinds are required for isolation only when there is personnel entry. In this case, it is not normally necessary. Use a single block valve with small drain valve for 300lb non toxic services and lower. If there is high H2S or other toxic components, blinding is required even when there is no personnel entry involved for all piping classes.

There is no simple answer.

You need to comply with the company or project isolation philosophy which will very by type of fluid, pressure, temperature etc.

It is fairly rare to see isolation blinds used to simply change out a filter, but if the requirements need it then it is included.

If blinds are fitted/required then they are used regardless of whether the valve is passing or not.

Hi
Consider the resource attached .
My experience with this type of filter :
1 line with the filter , with 2 block valves for isolation and maintenance of the filter
1 By pass line in service during the cleaning of the filter .
note : the filter should be equipped with a drain valve and on the cover of the filter 1 valve or plug to release the pressure prior to inspection .
