Position of Thrust Collar

Hi,
Can anybody tell me what is the usual design practice for the position of the thrust collar in a gearbox or a centrifugal compressor?
Should it be on the Low speed shaft or the high speed shaft?
Or the Drive End or the Non-Drive End?
