I am working on a drawing that has for example a long line shown. The drafter put a leader line through this line. He used some kind of a hiding technique that allowed him to put the leader through the line, it breaks the line making the leader more prominent but the line itself is still just one object. I am deleting some of his text and I want the whole to appear, not with the spaces in it anymore.

I'm unfamiliar on how he did this...How can you turn this feature off?

Try typing Wipeout, then Fr to turn the frames on, and hopefully you will see the outline of the area being masked.

Another way to find them is:

Right click in plan
Click Quick Select
Under Object Type look for and click on wipeout (if it's not listed then the wipeouts may be part of a block)
Under Operator click Select All
Then click OK.
Simply delete them if you so choose. If they are part of a block I believe you'll have to explode the blocks and then use these same steps to delete them.

dimension and leader text and Mtext can all have background color applied to the fill behind the text. It's like a built in wipeout. Wipeouts are so old school! Dimensions and leader lines can be broken with dimbreak. For text that hides an object underneath, find background mask in the properties dialog and set it off.

Ah, you learn something new every day! I had never heard of the dimbreak command, thanks IFRs, that might come in handy.
