I'm looking for connection details for typical pole barn construction. Anybody know of any sources without having to purchase a book on the subject?

Thanks, Jed. It's gives some decent info, but it's a little scarce on the details.

I'll give you an example of what I'm looking for:

I'm using round timber piles, and the building has a floor about 3' off grade. Interior floor beams need to be double 2x10's each side of the pole. I don't want to get into engineered wood products to get to one member each side. Of course you through bolt them at the pole, maybe even providing a notch for the beam to sit into. How do you splice them at the column? (4 thicknesses each side of pole)... don't want to use special hangers and articulate the beams. A pole barn is meant to be simple!

Before I engineered my first pole building many years ago I went to the local public library and found a host of books on related subjects. Some were good and some as I analyzed them I wondered how the buildings stood up. There is a wealth of knowledge out there if you are willing to take the time to look. You may also want to talk to people who specialize in building pole barns and pole buildings. They are out there and usually willing to talk. Most of them I know don't spend much time on the internet though so you have to look for them other ways.

see thread337-44031 for more info and articles on pole building design.
